Dr. Dan Berger

A young man with short light brown hair and blue eyes, wearing a black t-shirt, smiling slightly against a plain grey background.

I grew up in the Foothills of Southern Alberta and went to school in Nanton. I completed my undergraduate degree in Health Sciences (Biomedical Sciences) here in Calgary and stayed to complete both my MD and PhD in Neuroscience. I’m now fortunate to still be here, training in the best adult neurology residency program in the country.

I originally planned a career in neuroscience, but during my undergraduate years a close family member suffered a left MCA stroke, which gave me my first real introduction to neurology. Now, I’m excited about a career as an academic neurologist, with subspecialty interests in neuro-oncology and neuromuscular neurology. These days, I’m excited about some emerging trials of multi-target, locoregional CAR-T cells for gliomas. While early responses are often partial or short-lived, exciting things are ahead for brain tumors!

Outside of residency, I spend most of my time with my wife, our baby boy Emmett, our two Sphynx rescue cats, Millie and Gretchen, and our golden doodle, Sulley. I love playing piano, working out, trying new beers, watching movies, and getting out of the city and back to the Foothills whenever I can.
