Dr. Emma Woo

A smiling woman with curly brown hair wearing a black shirt, a blue and black plaid jacket, and a blue lanyard.

Before moving to Calgary, I had only ever lived by the ocean – spending time in Newfoundland, British Columbia, Wales, and Massachusetts. I completed medical school in UBC’s Island Medical Program in Victoria and was drawn to Calgary’s neurology residency for its wealth of opportunities and the incredibly kind and generous colleagues I knew I would be working alongside.

I originally studied History and Music in a liberal arts program and always preferred creative writing to lab reports, but I fell in love with neurology after realizing that diagnosing and treating neurological conditions means truly getting to know patients as people within their communities.

I’m especially excited to pursue a fellowship in movement disorders before starting practice, and to continue honing the skills of careful observation, curiosity, and humility as I learn from my patients.

Outside of residency, I love an adventure but I also enjoy relaxing at home with my spouse and our dog, Benny. I spend time hiking and backpacking as happily as I spend hours working on a craft project, and you can often find me at my family’s community garden plot snacking on fresh greens.
