Dr. Heather Yong

A woman with long dark hair, smiling, wearing a maroon shirt over a black top, against a gray background.

I grew up with a love for neurology – particularly neuroimmunology – fostered by my father, who is a researcher in multiple sclerosis. It has been a joy to work alongside him and develop my own path in the field. I completed a Bachelor of Science in Virology and Immunology at the University of British Columbia before earning my medical degree at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

My research interests focus on translating bench discoveries to bedside care, including serologic, cerebrospinal fluid, and imaging biomarkers of neuroimmunologic disease progression. I hope to complete a fellowship in autoimmune neurology and multiple sclerosis, with a focus on translational and clinical trial research – CAR T cell therapy is an exciting avenue for the future!

Outside of residency, my time is mostly spent with my first child, Sawyer (aka Soybean), my husband, and our labradoodle, Finley. I also enjoy playing squash competitively, dabbling in paddle tennis, gardening, and exploring new IPAs. I’m a true crime enthusiast and a devoted cribbage player—I’ve skunked my husband over 30 times (sorry, Paul)!
