Dr. Rudra Patel
I was born in India but spent most of my childhood in Edmonton before moving to Toronto for university, where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Neurosciences and Physiology at the University of Toronto. I then moved to Calgary for medical school and was fortunate to stay here for neurology residency.
Choosing a specialty was difficult because I enjoyed nearly all of my clerkship rotations, but I was ultimately drawn to neurology by the profound ways neurological conditions can alter someone’s life – impacting speech, movement, sensation, and cognition in deeply personal and powerful ways. I feel humbled by the impact of these illnesses and inspired to help people navigate them. I’m also excited by the rapid advances in the field, from monoclonal antibodies in Alzheimer’s disease to other innovations that will continue to shape neurology in the years ahead. I’m still exploring my path, though I see myself in an academic setting one day, integrating medical education into my clinical work.
Outside of residency, I enjoy expanding my ever-growing collection of books (which I swear I’ll get through someday) and winding down with Netflix shows that I’m probably too embarrassed to admit in public.
