Dr. Sophie Vaccarino
I grew up in Toronto and earned my Bachelor’s in Life Sciences at Queen’s University before completing a Master’s of Science focused on Functional Neuroimaging at the University of Toronto. I then moved west to pursue my MD at the University of Calgary.
My path to neurology began in psychiatry research, where I studied neuroimaging biomarkers in depression. Along the way, I fell in love with neuroanatomy and the challenge of solving the brain’s complex puzzles – especially knowing there’s still so much we have yet to uncover about our most important organ. I’m particularly interested in Movement Disorders and improving quality of life for people living with chronic illness, a focus I hope to continue exploring both clinically and academically throughout my career.
Outside of residency, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, exploring new restaurants and breweries around the city, and indulging my slight puzzle obsession – often with a NYT crossword in hand.
